The Problem With Finding Suitable Dental Hygienist Jobs

You would think that trying to look for dental hygienist jobs wouldn't be all that difficult. After all, at the moment many of us can't get enough of our dentists, with cosmetic dentistry now the most popular cosmetic treatment people are going for. Dental surgeries are springing up everywhere and many existing surgeries are expanding.

Dental hygienists are an essential part of the dental profession, and there is a growing need to fill these roles. So why are so many people finding it a struggle to locate a job that's suitable, in the right area and for which they are qualified?

This puzzle is made even more difficult when you consider the fact that a search on one of the most popular search engines (whose name can actually be pronounced perfectly even when your jaw is clamped open and a dentist is crawling around inside your gums) produces well over three million results for a search for 'dental hygienist jobs'. So what's going on?

The problem is that whilst there are plenty of hygienist jobs to go around, finding them is proving very tough. In the past of course the ideal solution was to visit a dental recruitment agency and sign up, provide them with your qualifications and experience, tell them which area you prefer to work in and then wait for the job details to come through. You could then fill in an application form if you were interested or wait for the next batch.

These days though it is the very expansion of the dental industry which has caused dental recruitment agencies to really struggle. There are so many different jobs within the dental industry, so many qualifications, so many more surgeries and so many more professionals looking for jobs that it is now very hard, if not impossible, for recruitment agencies to catch up. Whereas the waiting time may well once have been a few days or a couple of weeks, today people have been known to be kept waiting several weeks or several months.

That simply isn't good enough, which is why so many dental professionals have started abandoning the traditional dental recruitment agency and instead favouring job sites online. These certainly provide a much better alternative since you can do all of your searching whilst sitting at home at a time to suit you.

But the problem is that in most cases these online sites are little more than shiny new faces behind which the tired old dental recruitment agencies are still sitting. They're still delaying things, and still charging dental surgeries an arm and a leg to advertise through them. This means that if you visit an online recruitment site the chances are that you will only be able to browse those dental hygienist jobs which have been posted by dental surgeries which have paid that specific recruitment agency. It's fairly obvious to see where this is going. Ultimately you are only being shown a very narrow sliver of what is really out there, despite using this lovely shiny new website.

The answer is to avoid those online recruitment sites which are controlled by traditional dental recruitment agencies and instead opt for a site which doesn't charge a penny. Yes, there really is an online portal for all dental professionals which doesn't charge a penny to dental surgeries, which means that the overwhelming majority of surgeries advertise there as standard, regardless of where else they may choose to advertise.

This means you get to see more jobs, and because there's no tired old agency behind it there's no third party, letting you have more control and find the job you want faster than ever. If you're looking for dental hygienist jobs then ditch the agency and visit Dental Gateway for the next step on your career ladder.
